WILDLIFE

Wildlife Area Supervisor; Wildlife Biologist; Wildlife Rescuer; Wildlife Research Technician; Wildlife Communication Specialist; Wildlife Education Officer; Wildlife Enforcement Officer; Wildlife Management Consultant; Wildlife Officer; Wildlife Photographer; Zoologist

The Sector
This sector works to protect our wildlife and habitats by raising the awareness of the public and government to threats, gaining lasting protection for endangered species, and campaigning against the illegal trade in wildlife and the destruction of our natural environment. Conserving the world's species and their habitats also involves addressing global threats to nature such as climate change, toxic chemicals and deforestation.

Work involves undercover investigations, monitoring and collecting data, creating advocacy campaigns, public education, conservation and marketing. The sector works with people in industry, governments, local authorities, NGOs, landowners, nature reserves, philanthropists, communities and families.

The law also has an important role to play in stemming the tide of species loss. In the case of species where international trade contributes to their diminution, or migratory species that require the protection of habitat in two or more countries, international agreements and regional accords can be a critical component of conservation initiatives. A main objective is to conserve endangered wildlife species by helping to strengthen international and national wildlife legislation.

Issues and Trends
Global warming could fundamentally alter a third of plant and animal habitats by the end of this century, and cause the eventual extinction of certain plant and animal species. Climate change is already damaging the world's ecosystems and is set to cause a global humanitarian and environmental disaster as the world's poorest people and its wildlife and wild places are set to be hit the hardest. This sector will have to be working constantly to campaign for the protection of our wildlife.
