Mark Brumwell – Partner, Head of the Environment Group, Dundas & Wilson LLP

I am a partner at Dundas & Wilson LLP and head the Environment Group which has lawyers in our London, Edinburgh and Glasgow offices. I specialise in environmental law, including land use planning, compulsory purchase and related areas of public law. I advise a wide variety of commercial clients on the environmental aspects of corporate and property transactions, including commercial due diligence and issues of contaminated land in redevelopment projects. I also advise environmental regulators, such as the Environment Agency, and often deal with infrastructure projects, especially flood alleviation schemes, reservoirs and waste water treatment plants. I deal with a wide variety of other environmental issues on a regular basis, including waste management licensing, water pollution, green taxes, emissions trading, employee health and safety, environmental impact assessments, environmental audits and nature conservation controls.
 
I joined Dundas & Wilson LLP having worked with three other major UK law firms and having spent a period on secondment with an urban development corporation, working on urban regeneration projects. I am a Council member and Executive Committee member of the UK Environmental Law Association, the former Convenor of UKELA’s Water Working Group, a member of the Law Society’s Planning Panel, a Legal Associate of the Royal Town Planning Institute and an Associate of the Institution of Environmental Sciences. I regularly write and lecture on a variety of environmentally related topics. I am also editor of Cross Border Transactions and Environmental Law, and a contributor to the Encyclopaedia of Forms and Precedents.
